In The Stars

Once a fortnight, I pick up a free magazine that I read while waiting for the bus. On the back page is the best horoscope for Scorpio folk. I say for Scorpio because sometimes, when I have a lot of time to kill, I read other signs and I invariably come away glad to be a Scorpio. And this week it was as though the horoscope gods were sending me an action kick from on high. I quote:

Daytime. An empty room. Some wine spilled on the floor. Tile curling up under the sink. The fridge door is swung open and it is obscene. Upstairs there is shouting. Outside, sirens. Why can't you move, Scorpio? Why can't you just bring yourself to some small moment of action? This $@1& is depressing.

So, there it is. My small moment of action.

Hot Spot

Whenever I talk to people about my trip to D.C. for inauguration, I feel as though I cannot find enough words for how many people there were. Everywhere I looked I saw people and everyone was headed to the same central spot.

And I mean, everywhere you looked. And I ride the subway to work every day and I have been squeezed into a car with what feels like a thousand other people. I am often surprised at how full a train can be after letting 3 full trains go by and I was still bowled over by the masses.

And to have so many happy people in one place without a clown around? I don't know.

I should have done more but you see, it is kinda difficult to take pictures while wearing massive mittens...

There were all kinds of buttons, all over the place

Can you imagine, four guys had to hang about on the side of the building, manually changing those numbers.
I got dizzy just looking up.

Do you see the red elephant?

Or the blue donkey?

So, on one side of the building they set up this huge screen for us to watch all day. Outdoor theatre.

And we got to see the softer side of politics.

One for each party.

And for those with ADD, on the other side of the building was another TV screen, with a different channel on.

And a lovely blue carpet to make us feel special.

This is where I went to vote.

Did I mention, buttons galore?

People let their opinions be known, where ever they could.

You Say Farm and I Say Small Town

so i went over to ian smith's farm - where he was born and raised and then heir to the family fortune.

there are several dams on the mini-town

we went for the sheep

and stayed for the orchards

and wonderful greenery

i caught a glimpse of the home where ian smith was born.

it doesn't matter what you farm, no farm has credibility unless it has dogs. that goes for small towns too.

those silos were used to cure tobacco. not that the climate in the midlands was good for tobacco but there was a time where tobacco was good for the economy and so the prime minister had to lead by example. see, i farm tobacco and so must you, good citizen.

there are signs for the on-site school.
